What are computer networks?

A network Allows computers to connect and communicate via any medium. Computer networks can be characterized by their size as well as their purpose.

There are majorly three types of computer networks based on size:

LAN(Local Area Network)
WAN(Wide Area Network)
MAN(Metropolitan Area Network )

These are designed to operate over the geographical area they cover.

LAN covers the smallest area, and MAN covers an area larger than the WAN and WAN covers the largest area of all.

Some other types of computer networks based on a specific purpose are:

VPN(Virtual Private Network)- used to provide online privacy and anonymity by creating a private network from a public internet connection.
SAN(Storage Area Network)- a specialized, high-speed network that provides block-level network access to storage.
PAN(Personal Area Network)- Organised within a single building for a single person. Eg. Telephone, Video Console, Alexa, Computer, printer all connected together.
