Rainforests is an ecosystem characterised by tall tress, look like dense forest and heavy rainfall. It is considered to be the World's  oldest living system with the story of 70 million years. The climate here is hot and humid and they occupy 6% of the surface of the Earth.

Rainforests are found in all the continents except in Antarctica. Amazon forests of South America are the largest rainforests. Followed by that the Congo River in Africa has rainforest next in size to Amazon. Rainforests are the source of many of our daily products sugar, cinnamon, chocolate etc.

Different types of rainforests are found on Earth. They are:

Tropical Rainforest: They are found between Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn i.e 23.5 0 N & S. The Central America, South America, West and Central Africa, West part of India, South East Asia, Island of New Guinea and Australia has tropical rainforest. The sunlight falls directly on the ground and hence the temperature is always on a high. This increases evaporation and precipitation causing heavy rainfall.

Temperate Rainforest: Temperate forests are found near middle latitudes especially along the Pacific coast region of USA and Canada. This include Chile, Pacific Northwest of North America, UK, Japan,Norway, New Zealand and Southern part of Australia. Here the direct sunlight is not falling on the ground and hence they are milder. Rainfalls occur due to wind from coastal region and are stuck between the mountainous region.
