Five basic nutritional components are
1. Carbohydrates
These are the major source for energy and 60% of an individual‘s diet consists of carbohydrates. Our energy requirements are fullfilled by carbohydrates.
2. Proteins
Protein are required by our body for repairing the damaged cells, and make new cells. These are responsible for the growth of our body. About 25% of our diet must contain proteins.
3. Fats
Fats provide 15% of daily caloric or energy needs and is a major energy source. Fats also plays an important part in storing vitamins and synthesizing hormones for the proper functioning of our body.
4. Vitamins and Minerals
Vitamins and minerals come under the category of micronutrients and are responsible for the proper metabolic activity, nerve and muscle function, bone maintenance and production of cells.
5. Water
Without water living organisms can not survive and it is a major nutritional component which helps in regulating body temperature, provide lubrication to joints, and protection to major organs and tissues. Oxygen is transported to each and every cell of our body through water.
