Culture mainly classified into two categories:

  • High context culture
  • Low context culture

High context culture refers to those cultures where words are not used for communication i.e. communication taken place through nonverbal cues.

This culture is preferred when words do not have any significant value.

Such culture is preferred in those countries where people are able to understand one another without words.

Voice tone, Gesture, Posture play a very important role in this culture.

High context culture is generally seen in Arab, African countries.

 

Low context culture is just the opposite of high context culture, under low context culture communication taken place by using words,

Low context culture is generally seen in Western European countries

This culture is preferred when words have a significant value.

Chances of misunderstanding decrease under this culture.
