Expert Solution
Step 1

In chemistry various mechanism are studied. Some of important mechanisms are nucleophilic substitution, nucleophilic addition, electrophilic addition.

Step 2

In nucleophilic substitution reaction, an atom of reactant molecule is substituted by a nucleophile. Nucleophile has lone pairs or negative charge on them, which makes them electron donor. This mechanism is of two types SN1 and SN2. Here SN1 mechanism is followed. It is so because here tertiary halide is present. In SN1 mechanism, carbocation is formed. Tertiary carbocation is most stable. Polar protic solvent helps in this reaction.
