Between 1765 and 1783, colonial North America underwent an intellectual and political change known as the American Revolution. The United States of America, the first contemporary constitutional liberal democracy, was founded after the Americans in the Thirteen Colonies won the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783) against the British. The primary industries in the North were fishing and shipbuilding, while in the South cotton and tobacco plantations were cultivated using slave labour. Each assembly in the colonies was chosen by eligible citizens. The assembly passed local ordinances and levied taxes. However, these were governed by the main country. The colonists became more annoyed by the laws' interference by the 18th century. The desire for a free country increased, and a revolution was declared that resulted in England's loss. The "American War of Independence" was this.
