Hi Megan, this looks good, but if you have time before the due date I have some feedback. You currently don't have primary and foreign keys labeled as well as they may be missing in some of your tables. For example, there is no way to know what task a package is for. Please expand your tables to view your data types as well. Thanks! Danielle Sherman, Oct 10 at 1:09pm
SQL
SQL stands for Structured Query Language, is a form of communication that uses queries structured in a specific format to store, manage & retrieve data from a relational database.
Queries
A query is a type of computer programming language that is used to retrieve data from a database. Databases are useful in a variety of ways. They enable the retrieval of records or parts of records, as well as the performance of various calculations prior to displaying the results. A search query is one type of query that many people perform several times per day. A search query is executed every time you use a search engine to find something. When you press the Enter key, the keywords are sent to the search engine, where they are processed by an algorithm that retrieves related results from the search index. Your query's results are displayed on a search engine results page, or SER.
I'm trying to create an Entity Relationship Diagram based off the business rules given, but my professor gave my some feedback on what I submitted and I can't figure out how to fix it. I have included images of what I created, the feedback I was given, and below are the business rules she gave us:
Business Rules:
CURE (Christian United Relief) is a nonprofit organization that provides aid to people after natural disasters. Based on the following brief description of operations, create the appropriate fully labeled Crow’s Foot ERD.
- Individuals volunteer their time to carry out the tasks of the organization. For each volunteer, their name, address, and telephone number are tracked. Each volunteer may be assigned to several tasks during the time that they are doing volunteer work, and some tasks require many volunteers. It is possible for a volunteer to be in the system without having been assigned a task yet. It is possible to have tasks that no one has been assigned. When a volunteer is assigned to a task, the system should track the start time and end time of that assignment.
- For each task, there is a task code, task description, task type, and a task status. For example, there may be a task with task code “101,” description of “answer the telephone,” a type of “recurring,” and a status of “ongoing.” There could be another task with a code of “102,” description of “prepare 5000 packages of basic medical supplies,” a type of “packing,” and a status of “open.”
- For all tasks of type “packing,” there is a packing list that specifies the contents of the packages. There are many different packing lists to produce different packages, such as basic medical packages, childcare packages, food packages, etc. Each packing list has a packing list ID number, packing list name, and a packing list description, which describes the items that ideally go into making that type of package. Every packing task is associated with only one packing list. A packing list may not be associated with any tasks or may be associated with many tasks. Tasks that are not “packing” task are not associated with any packing list.
