Expert Solution
Step 1

Hey, thank you for your question. As per your question, we have divided the solution into parts to understand it better as mentioned below-

  • What is Malware
  • What are the types of Malware
  • What are the security concerns can be caused by malware
  • How to take protection against malware as a Security professional

Let us explain each part one by one.

Malware:

  • Malware is the abbreviation of "Malicious Software". It determines a collective form of harmful software which cause threats to the computer, or server, or communication network.
  • Malware is not meant for any physical damage to computer devices but it is basically causing severe security breaches like it can access secured data without authorization, also can steal or delete data without informing the user from the device.

Types of Malware:

A few common categories of Malware are discussed below :

a) Virus

A virus is a type of malicious software that goes into a system through human action and then often corrupts the available data in the hard disk, reformats the hard disk, and so on.

b) Worm

It is another type of malware that wants to spread from one system to another system by replicating itself. It is a piece of code that spreads from device to device through the operating system environment.

c) Trojan

This malware is a duplicate of original application programs that tries to mislead the user to make him believe that it is the intended one.

d) Spyware

Spyware is a type of malware that attacks the user through internet surfing habits, web searches of the user in the web browser and steals account information, password, personal information saved in the browser by the user.

e) Adware

Often we clicked on any attractive and lucrative advertisement floating on the home page of the web browser without knowing the authenticity of the source of advertisement. As a consequence, we are redirected to some of the unknown webpages randomly and our internet settings activity, data usage all are changed without our knowledge. This type of security concern is caused by Adwares.

e) Ransomware

This malware is dangerous as it attacks the user by holding all control of data in the system and demands for money to return the system back to its previous state.
