Graph the function h (x)=- 2x- 1. 6- 4. 2.
Equations and Inequations
Equations and inequalities describe the relationship between two mathematical expressions.
Linear Functions
A linear function can just be a constant, or it can be the constant multiplied with the variable like x or y. If the variables are of the form, x2, x1/2 or y2 it is not linear. The exponent over the variables should always be 1.
The function given above represent a straight line.
First let us discuss the method for plotting a straight line. For plotting a straight line we need two points. We then join those point through a line and then extend them in the both sides. This is how we get a straight line.
Here, the function is given by,
h(x) = -2x-1
Let us find 2 points on the function / straight line,
x | -3 | 2 |
h(x) = -2x-1 | -2*(-3)-1 =5 | -2*2-1 = -5 |
Hence two points on the function are (-3,5) and (2,-5) . To get the straight line we join them through a line and extend them in the both sides.
