Question

Gloves are sterile if they have never been used, especially out of a newly opened box. True or False?

Expert Solution
Step 1: Introduction

Hand gloves are generally used to protect hands from heat, cold, abrasion, chemicals, and other harsh environments. In the field of medicine, hand gloves aids in the prevention of contamination and transfer of diseases through touch or hand contact. Commercial gloves that are available in the market can either be sterile or nonsterile.

Sterile gloves are gloves that have been sterilized and are devoid of microorganisms or any other disease-causing agents. Autoclaving is the commonly used procedure for sterilization of hand gloves. In this technique, gloves are exposed to high temperature (121 oC) and pressure (15 lbs) for 20 minutes to kill microbial agents.
