Human Vision and Machine Vision

Human vision is extremely sensitive to other human faces. It sees faces when they are not really there.

As everyone knows, our brain can identify any new object we see but as for now, computers can't really identify the new object they encounters. However, with the advancement in the technology, Machine Learning coming into the scene, the computers can be trained to visually analyses and recognize any object they see.

1- When someone opens the newspaper and sees a photograph, the brain interprets the photograph as a smooth, clear image. Yet, when inspected closely, the photograph is actually a series of tiny dots of ink. The brain blends these dots together to create the appearance of a crisp image.

The same process is allowed in the perception of images on a computer screen, which are presented in the form of pixels of information.

2- When the brain is confronted by a scene containing a number of different objects, it can’t keep track of all of them at once. So instead it creates a rough map of the scene that simply identifies some regions as being more visually interesting than others. This advantage is featured in the AI systems also, that is, the whole image is given as input and only the object of interest is analysed.
