function of cholesterol in the lipid bilateral cell membrane
What is the function of cholesterol in the lipid bilateral cell membrane?
Cell membrane is the biological membrane that separates inside contents from outside environment. There are different models proposed for the cell membrane where Fluid Mosaic model proposed by Jonathan Singer and Garth Nicolson in 1972 is the widely accepted model . This model consists of lipids and proteins arranged in bilayer form. The lipid bilayer is with two leaflets of amphipathic lipid molecules where the polar heads faces the aqueous region (either intracellular or extracellular) and the non-polar tail interacts with each other by hydrophobic interactions. Three types of lipid molecules present in the bilayer- they are phospholipids, glycolipids and sterols.
