Electromagnetic radiation is the transfer of energy by means of electromagnetic waves traveling through space or a material medium. It is composed of oscillating electric and magnetic fields that move in a direction perpendicular to each other and perpendicular to the direction of energy transfer. Electromagnetic radiation is produced by changes in the electric and magnetic fields, such as those created by electrical currents. Examples of electromagnetic radiation include radio waves, microwaves, infrared radiation, visible light, ultraviolet radiation, x-rays, and gamma radiation.
