The peripheral circulatory system performs distribution of the blood flow, transport, storage of blood, and gaseous exchange between the blood and tissues. This system consists of two types of blood vessels; pulmonary vessels and systemic vessel. Pulmonary vessels and systemic vessels together constitute as peripheral circulation. Function of pulmonary vessels is to supply the blood to the lungs while systemic vessels act to supply the blood to rest of the body except lungs.

Tunica media: It is the middle layer of the wall of an artery. It is usually the thickest layer of arterial wall. It is primarily a smooth muscle that contains many smooth muscle cells.
