Positive Traits
1. Deligent and Patient - Majority of our livelihood in the Philippines is based on agriculture. It
takes a lot of back-breaking work to plant the fields. Then it takes patience to care, water
and harvest it.
2. Resourceful and Creative - During the times when we don't have the eans to accomplish
something, we find ingenious ways of using what we have to solve our problems.
3. Obidient and Dutiful - In our culture, we always respect and follow what our parents and
adults advise us to do. Not talking back, and trusting the adults around us has always been a
part of who we are.
4. Cheerful - Because we've been through a lot of trials in our history, Filipinos have learned
not to be depressed. Rather, we find a joke and try to have a fun even during times of
difficulty.
5. Thrifty and Frugal - We don't like to waste anything since we don't have a lot. We are
careful of what we have, knowing that it will serve us well for a long time.
6. Pakikipagkapwa-tao - Opening yourself to others and feel one with others with dignity
and respect deal with them as fellow human beings. Part of this is the sense of fairness and
justice, concerns for others, ability to empathize with others, helpfulness and generosity.

challenges such as natural calamities. Social media is a reflection as to how Filipinos turn a
negative though into a light entertaining one through memes and funny posts.
8. Hard Work and Industry - Shows the capacity for hard work given to raise one's standard
living of a decent life for ones family.
9. Ability to Survive - Filipinos will do anything to survive. As part of being resilient and
creative, Filipinos are quick to adapt to changes which is big factor in surviving.

1. Crab Mentality - Filipinos sometimes get jealous of other people's successes that they find
a way to pull the other person down, rather than striving to be better.
2. Colonial Mentality - If sometimes is made in America or of a foreign brand, we think it is
of greater quality. So we buy foreign products more than we would buy locally made
products.
3. Sore Losers - Many times, Filipinos become very competitive and hate losing. At times,
when we lose, we find a way to get even.
4. Ningas-kugon - We start something eagerly but loe momentum and don't tend to finish or
reach long-term goals.
5. Mañana Habit - Sometimes, Filipinos would like to put off doing things until it is too late.
Exaxmples are: Fixing what needs to be fixed, or saving money for future expenditures
6. Extreme Personalism - Always trying to give personal interpretation to actions. Thank you
with "but" (compliment-criticism-compliment) is a common Filipino trait.
7. ExtremeFamily Centeredness - A strong family protection for either good or bad condition.
With the concept of blood is thicker than water, Filipinos will sacriffice himself for his love
one no matter what the situation is. The love of parents to children is very strong.
8. Lack of Discipline - Relaxed attitude but poor time management of the Filipinos. Being
impatient and unable to delay gratification or reward and the love to take short-cuts or
"palusot" system is rooted in our system. Carelessness is also very evident. The current
situation in th COVID-19 pandemic shows it all.
9. "Bahala Na" - When helpless, we tend not to act to solve our problems. We usually don't
plan ahead, or plan fo contigencies. Instead of covering all our bases, we simply let the fates
dictate what will happen.
10. Kanya-kanya Syndrome - Self-serving arrogance that generates feeling of jealousy,
greed and competitiveness towards others. Personal ambition matters a lot but insensitive to
common goods. Also, the lack of appreciation resulting unhealthy competition is very
eviednt.
