A pedigree chart is used to represent the pattern in which a particular trait is inherited in a family across generations. This chart makes use of a standard set of symbols that is used to represent a female, a male, the offspring, siblings, carriers of a particular disorder, affected individuals of a particular disorder, deceased individuals, a couple, adoptions, monozygotic and dizygotic twins, etc.
