Question

Factor by "splitting the middle"

12x^2 + 11x +2

12x^2 - 4x - 1

Expert Solution
Step 1

Given that we need to do factor of following expressions by using splitting the middle.

12x2 + 11x + 2

12x2 - 4x - 1

Now ,

12x2 + 11x + 2       = 12x2 + 8x + 3x + 2

                                 = 4x ( 3x + 2) + 3x + 2

                                 = (3x + 2) ( 4x + 1)

So,the factors  of 12x2 + 11x + 2 are

(3x + 2) and (4x + 1) .
