Question

Explain why the Cantor Set is the set of all points in base 3 that have a repre-
sentation using only the digits 0 and 2 in base 3.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Given: We have a cantor set in the set of all points in base 3.

To prove:- We can Represent the cantor set using only the digits 0 and 2 in base 3.

First of all, we will understand the cantor sets definition

Cantor set:-The Cantor ternary set we can create by repeatedly deleting the open middle thirds of a set of line segments.

In the interval 0,1 we will start deleting the open middle third part 13,23, so our remaining two line segments will be

0,1323,1. The open middle third of each of these remaining segments is deleted, leaving four line segments,

that is 0,1929,1323,7989,1.
