Question
Explain which model of our solar system is currently accepted and supported by science: the geocentric or heliocentric. Use 2 pieces of evidence from the image attached to explain your answer.
People struggle to get on board with the
heliocentric model (it disagreed with the
church, it was a NEW idea, and it took earth
out of the middle of our solar system!)
Tycho Brahe provides support for the
heliocentric model using his astronomical
observatory and recording the movements
of planets and stars.
Brahe dies, and his assistant Johannes Kepler
provides MORE support for the heliocentric
model by calculating the orbits of the
planets. They move in Ellipses, not Circles!
Galileo Galilei was an astronomer who used
Copernicus and Kepler's data to study the
moon and planets. (He found 4 moons
around Jupiter, saw that objects fall at same
speeds despite weight, and built the first
telescope.)
