The structure of State courts varies at four levels generally as: 

  • Minor courts 
  • Major trial courts 
  • Immediate appellate court
  • State supreme courts.

Trial courts include constitutional processes and deals with common laws and common pleas. These trial courts deal with cases such as rape, murder, robbery, and others.

The immediate appellate court is considered as courts of appeals, judicial reviews, etc. These courts review the matched evidence and decisions made by the trial courts. 

State supreme courts deal with the state laws and functioning of the state constitution. It has different names as different names in different places for example, in West Virginia, it is known as courts of supreme appeals.
