Explain the life cycle of a female in India. Be sure to discuss life as a young girl and life as an adult. What are two social problems that emerged in India today regarding women?
In India, the birth of a girl child is not looked at with any degree of enthusiasm or celebration and very different to the arrival of a baby boy. In fact even before the girl child is born, while she is in the womb as a fetus the parents and the larger family, both the natal family or the family of orientation and and the family of procreation receive the news of the of her birth with a feeling of despair. She is looked on as a "burden", on whom the family has to spend a sizable amount of money. On the other hand the little boy is seen as a way of consolidating wealth since he will be bringing in assets in the form of bridal wealth - jewelry, money and perhaps even land, vehicles etc.
