In deforming process, one solid of desired shape and size is transformed into another solid of the required shape and size. In deforming processes, the initial solid shape is plastically deformed into another required shape by using different dies or tools. Deformation processes are mainly of two types, the first one is the bulk-forming and the second one is the sheet forming process.

The bulk-forming process is one in which the initial solid metal in the form of billets, slabs are transformed into other solids by the considerable increase in surface to volume ratio. The example of such a process is forging, rolling and extrusion.
