explain Representativeness and Probability of Selection?

Expert Solution
Introduction

Following is the explanation of Representativeness and Probability of Selection:

Explanation

Representativeness

A representative sample is a small amount of something or a subset of something bigger. It has the same characteristics and proportions as a larger population. A representative sample is a select group of people who represent a larger group as closely as possible. For example, an online poll on a subset of the population ensures that it represents the target population.

Probability of Selection

The probability of selection in sample sampling corresponds to the likelihood (i.e., the probability from 0 to 1) that a member (element) of a population will be selected for a given survey. When a researcher uses a probability survey, the concept often refers to the fact that each member of the sampling frame used to represent the population has a known nonzero likelihood of being chosen.

The probability of a representative being selected out of all the candidates of the society can be determined. A probability of 0.001 (1/1,000 0.001) is equal to a chance of 1 out of 1,000. The estimated probability is always greater than since any member of a probability pool has a chance of being chosen.
