Explain passive network sniffing based on the method and reason of the attack.

Passive Sniffing:
This type of sniffing takes place at the hub. A hub is a device that receives traffic on a single port and retransmits it to all other ports. It ignores the fact that the traffic is not intended for other destinations. If a sniffer device is positioned at the hub in this instance, the sniffer can directly record all network traffic. The sniffer can remain unnoticed for an extended period of time while spying on the network. Because hubs aren't utilized very often these days, this type of attack will be a throwback. Hubs are being phased out in favor of switches, which is where active sniffing comes in.
