Transcribed Image Text:Explain Miner's Rule and discuss the limitation in applying Miner's
Rule.
An engine crankshaft is found to have the following fatigue life
characteristics: At operating stress of 420MPa, the number of cycles to
failure is 65 cycles. At operating stress of 360MPa, the number of
cycles to failure is 390 cycles, and at operating stress of 130MPa, the
number of cycles to failure is 11,900 cycles.
(i) Apply Miner's Rule, find the fraction of life exhausted under each of
the stress level.
Determine how many times the following sequence can be repeated.
Operating stress of 420MPa for 7 cycles, operating stress of 360MPa
for 65 cycles, and operating stress of 130MPa for 325 cycles.
Find the endurance limit and fatigue life corresponding to the stress
amplitude of 675MPa from the SN curve for ultra-high strength steel
