Question

Explain how CRISPR was discovered and developed into the tool available today.

Expert Solution
Introduction and discovery:

CRISPR stands for clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats. These were naturally found in prokaryotes such as  bacteria. These sequences were discovered from DNA fragments of bacteriophages that has previously  infected the prokaryotic cell. These sequences are responsible for detection and destruction of DNA from similar bacteriophages while continuous further infections.
