Explain Gandharan Sculpture
The Gandharan Art is an ancient art that can be seen in Pakistan’s northwest regions, Afghanistan’s eastern parts.
From the 1st century AD to the 6th century AD, the Gandharan empire in the subcontinent gave rise to Gandharan Art. The artistic style was based on Mahayana Buddhism, which led to the many Buddhist sculptures of Gandharan art.
Many argued that Gandharan sculptures represented Indian themes in foreign styles where Buddha and Bodhisattvas were central figures. One of the famous Gandharan sculptures was Damien Buddha which was influenced by Macedonian and Greek art. Thus many have found similarities between Greek sculptures and Gandharan sculpture styles.
