Hydrology and water resources problem

Transcribed Image Text:Problem:
A flash flood is a rapid flooding of low-lying areas: washes, rivers, dry lakes and depressions. It
may be caused by heavy rain associated with a severe thunderstorm, hurricane, tropical storm, or
meltwater from ice or snow flowing over ice sheets or snowfields. Flash floods may also occur
after the collapse of a natural ice or debris dam, or a human structure such as a man-made dam.
Flash floods are distinguished from regular floods by having a timescale of fewer than six hours
between rainfall and the onset of flooding.
Being a water resource engineer, it is required to provide remedial measures to control flash flood
in a river on a hilly area (Figure 1) to decrease the time of maximum flow in the river and to
increase the evacuation time for the people living near the floodplain.

Note: Also
1. Elaborate the importance of flash flood remedial measures
2. The remedial measures should be practical. The past research and data should be
referenced. Also elaborate that how we can perform experimental investigation of the
proposed solution prior to the execution of proposed solution.
3. Highlight the possible results/outcomes and benefit of the proposed solution of
mitigating flash flood effects on local people.
