The process of use of illegal drugs or use of prescription or over-the-counter drugs or alcohol for purposes other than those for which they are meant to be used or excessive amount is called substance abuse. It causes social, physical, emotional, and job-related problems.

Step 2

Substance abuse problems lead to addiction. The substance can enter the body in different ways, it can be smoked, snorted, injected, swallowed, or applied through transdermal means applied to the skin, some substances can be eaten such as marijuana.

Types of drugs are;

  • Stimulants - eg: cocaine
  • Depressants - eg: alcohol
  • Opium related pain killers - eg: heroin
  • Hallucinogens - eg: LSD

  • Effectively deal with peer pressure
  • Deals with life pressure
  • Seek help for mental illness
  • Examine every risk factor
  • Keep well-balanced life
