Discuss how antibiotics were developed.
Antibiotics literally mean "against life," which in this context refers to microbes. Antibiotics are of different types, including antibacterials, antivirals, antifungals, and antiparasitics. Broad-spectrum antibiotics are drugs that are effective against a wide range of microorganisms. Others, known as narrow-spectrum antibiotics, are effective against only a few microorganisms. Antibacterial are the most commonly used antibiotics that are used to treat infections caused by bacteria. Normally, billions of microscopic bacteria live on our skin, in our intestines, and in our mouths and throats. Although most are innocuous to humans, some are pathogenic (disease-causing) and can cause infections in the ears, throat, skin, and other body regions.
