Directions: Identify the appropriate test statistic to be used in each problem. 1. In a plant nursery, the owner thinks that the lengths of seedlings in a box sprayed with a new kind of fertilizer has an average height of 26 cm after three days and a standard deviation of 10 cm. One researcher randomly selected 80 such seedlings and calculated the mean height to be 20 cm and the standard deviation was 10 cm.

Directions: Identify the appropriate test statistic to be used in each
problem.
1. In a plant nursery, the owner thinks that the lengths of seedlings in a box
sprayed with a new kind of fertilizer has an average height of 26 cm after three
days and a standard deviation of 10 cm. One researcher randomly selected 80
such seedlings and calculated the mean height to be 20 cm and the standard
deviation was 10 cm.
2. Piggery owners in the City of Batac had an average income of Php 150, 000
from the previous year. A researcher believes that the income of the piggery
owners had increased due to the price hike of pork. He conducted a survey on
35 piggery owners. The result obtained a sample mean of Php 180, 000 with a
sample standard deviation of Php 5, 000.
3. A magazine reports that a typical shopper spends less than 10 minutes in line
waiting to check out. A sample of 40 shoppers at City of Batac Public Market
showed mean of 8.5 minutes with standard deviation of 2.5 minutes.
4. A manufacturer of tires claim that their tire has a mean life of at least 50,000
kms. A random sample of 25 of these tires is tested and the sample mean is
35,000 kms. Assume that the population standard deviation is 4,000 kms and
the lives of the tires are approximately normally distributed.
5. On average, a drinking vending machine is adjusted so it dispenses 250 ml of
fruit juice. However, the machine tends to go out of adjustment and periodic
checks are made to determine the average amount of fruit juice being
dispensed. A sample of 29 with a standard deviation of 12 ml in plastic cup
drinks is taken to test the adjustment of the machine.
