Immunology is a section of biology that includes the study of molecules, cells, and organs that buildup the immune systems of all organisms. The main function of the immune system is to recognize and act on the antigens(self and nonself) through various specific and nonspecific defense mechanisms. Defects in the immune system can result in immunological disorders including autoimmune diseases, hypersensitivity reactions, and transplant rejection etcetera. The immune system is comprised of various cellular and humoral elements such as T, B-lymphocytes, and antibodies, cytokines respectively working cooperatively to eliminate any non-self, harmful antigen. Immunology has applications in diverse systems such as organ transplantation, oncology, bacteriology, virology, and parasitology etcetera.
