Question
Determine the limiting reaction. Express as a chemical formula.
Urea (CH,N,0) is a common fertilizer that can be
synthesized by the reaction of ammonia (NH3 ) with
carbon dioxide as follows
2NH3(aq) + CO2 (aq) → CH,N20(aq) + H2O(1)
In an industrial synthesis of urea, a chemist combines
122.3 kg of ammonia with 211 4 kg of carbon dioxide and
obtains 182 9 kg of urea

Expert Solution
Step 1

Given : Mass of NH3 taken = 122.3 Kg = 122300 g                                                  (since 1 Kg = 1000 g)

And mass of CO2 taken = 211.4 = 211400 g

The balanced reaction taking place is given as,

Chemistry homework question answer, step 1, image 1

Molar mass of CO2 = Atomic mass of C + Atomic mass of O X 2 = 12 + 16 X 2 = 44 g/mol

And molar mass of NH3 = Atomic mass of N + Atomic mass of H X 3 = 14 + 1 X 3 = 17 g/mol
