Atomic Structure
The basic structure of an atom is defined as the component-level of atomic structure of an atom. Precisely speaking an atom consists of three major subatomic particles which are protons, neutrons, and electrons. Many theories have been stated for explaining the structure of an atom.
Shape of the D Orbital
Shapes of orbitals are an approximate representation of boundaries in space for finding electrons occupied in that respective orbital. D orbitals are known to have a clover leaf shape or dumbbell inside where electrons can be found.
Determine the charge and made of nuclei in amu made up of the following:
6 protons and 6 neutrons
20 protons and 25 neutrons
1) The nuclei is having 6 protons and 6 neutrons
Since the charge of proton is +1 and charge on neutron is 0.
Hence the charge of nuclei = charge of proton X number of proton + charge of neutron X number of neutron
=> the charge of nuclei = 1 X 6 + 0 X 6 = +6
Mass of neutron = 1.008665 amu and mass of proton = 1.00727647
Hence mass of nuclei in amu = mass of neutron X number of neutron + mass of proton X number of proton
=> mass of nuclei in amu = 1.008665 X 6 + 1.00727647 X 6 = 12.09565 amu approx.
