Expert Solution
Step 1

Sodium belongs to the group of alkali metals known for their highly reactive nature. Sodium readily reacts with water vapour in the air. When in contact with liquid water it explosively reacts to form sodium hydroxide and releases hydrogen gas. It is thus kept out of contact from even air and stored in kerosene. It is not to be touched with a bare hand and is picked up using tongs and dried in a paper towel for usage. These points suggest that it is highly incompatible with water.
