The chief executive officer is immediately below the board of directors, who hold the highest positions in the company. In certain companies, the chief executive officer simultaneously serves as president and board chairman. Among the executives who answer to the company's CEO are the chief operating officer, chief financial officer, and chief information officer. The executives below this level are typically vice presidents, managers, and directors. High management is often followed by department leaders, who, depending on the size of the company, are subsequently followed by regular employees whose ranks are split according to experience and authority.
