Describe the Taguchi Methods for experimental design and how the concepts of robustness and design for quality are integrated into this method of experimental design.
The Taguchi method would generally involve in the reduction of the variation in a process through deploying robust design of experiments. The goal is to give output quality to be high in the product with low costs of production.
The method was developed for designing the experiments to investigate the affect of different parameters on the mean and the variance of the process performance characteristics which would define that how well a particular process would be performing.
Taguchi involved the usage of the orthogonal arrays to organize the parameters affecting the process and the levels at which they should be varied. The Taguchi method tests a pairs of combinations. Taguchi's innovation was to replicate each experiment by means of an outer array, itself an orthogonal array that seeks deliberately to emulate the sources of the variation that a product would encounter in reality.
This would allow for the collection of the necessary data to determine which factors mostly affect the quality of products with minimum amount of the experimentation by saving the resources and time.
