Vessel resistance refers to the resistance above which blood must be pushed through the circulatory system to generate the flow of blood. This resistance in the case of the systemic circulation is termed systemic vascular resistance. Blood pressure refers to the pressure put on the blood vessel walls by the circulating blood as a result of pumping by the heart.
