Describe the process for validating a water purification system.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Water purification has become a necessity in todays world and thus, validation of water purification system must be carried out.

Step 2

The process of water purification system consists of the following steps:

Step_1. Raw water is treated with filtration and chlorination.
Step_2. Water softening is done by exchanging calcium and magnesium ions  for sodium ions in a resin column.

Step_3.Activated carbon is used to remove chlorine and other organic materials from the water

Step_4.Filtration is carried out in following phases
1.  Large particles are removed by pre-filtration.
2.  Micro filters or bacteria of the size 0.22 µm are removed.
3.  Ultrafilters in the of range from 0.001 to 0.01 µm are further used.

Stpe5. Ion exchange is carried out to remove dissolved ionic impurities.

Step_6. Reverse osmosis (RO) is done to remove a large quantity of salt and particulates, bacteria, and pyrogenic materials.

Step_7.Ultrafiltration: It is differs from RO with respect to the porosity of the membrane. The process is  similar to RO.
