Describe the outcome of Yanofsky TrpR experiments?
Introduction
Charles Yanofsky was an American Geneticist which work on regulation of messenger RNA (mRNA) and its regulation in synthesis of amino acid tryptophan in E. coli in 1970s. He also gave the one gene one enzyme hypothesis and discovered the attenuation in Tryptophan (Trp) operon.
Gene Regulation: Expression of gene is highly regulated in both prokaryotes as well as in Eukaryotes. If there would be no gene regulation then any gene can be over or under expressed and this can cause various disorders.
In prokaryotes, they have polycistronic mRNA i.e. they have single mRNA product of transcription of many genes. Their genes are controlled by usually a single promoter sequence. In bacteria Lactobacillus two major gene regulation system are well known such as Lac operon and Trp operon. Lac operon is associated with Lactose metabolism whereas Trp operon is associated with tryptophan biosynthesis.
