Cell signalling is a way adopted by the cells of a body to communicate with each other so that they can regulate and coordinate each other’s activity. The information from one cell to another is conveyed through a signal. This signalling molecule is known as ligand.

When gaseous molecules either produced endogenously or received from the environment transmit chemical signals that can induce biochemical or physiological changes in the cell, tissue, or organisms; is known as gaseous signaling molecules. Most of the gaseous signaling molecules are also termed gasotransmitters. CO or carbon monoxide is one of the gasotransmitters found in humans.
