The skeletal system of the body comprises all the bones and joints in the body. The bones or the skeletons are the vital body parts that are responsible for providing structural support to the soft tissues and organs present in the body. The bones of the skeletal system are connected to each other by joints. Thus, the point of contact at which two bones meet is called a joint or articulations. The formation of joints between two bones is facilitated by the ligament. This skeleton system, apart from providing body support and structural framework, also facilitates the movement of the body by interacting with the muscular system of the body. The tendon is a fibrous connective tissue responsible for connecting muscle to bone, therefore connecting the two systems.
The skeletal system is also responsible for the storage of minerals such as calcium or phosphorus. The skeletal system forms the main component of the hematopoietic system, which is a biological process involving production of new red blood cells in the bone marrow.
