Describe the basic structures of unit cells?
All matter can exist in different physical states; solid, liquid and gases. Solid is well known physical state of matter that can easily identify with the help of strong intermolecular force of attraction between particles and least intermolecular distance between constituent particles.
On the basis of arrangement of particles; solids can be classified as crystalline solids and amorphous solids. An amorphous solid does not have a definite geometric or crystalline shape whereas crystalline solids can be easily identified with the help of definite geometry and arrangement of particles in the solid system.
The substances with this property are called as anisotropic substances. On the contrary, an isotropic substances show same properties along all directions like metal and glass.
