Describe preimplantation embryo diagnosis
Preimplantation means before implantation. Implantation is the attachment of the blastocyst or fertilized egg to the endometrium of the uterus.
Preimplantation embryo diagnosis is the reproductive technology that is used to diagnose embryo (mainly in in-vitro fertilization) for several aspects related to the normal development of embryo after implantation.
If both the parents or any one of them is suffering from any genetic defects, then it is necessary to done preimplantation embryo diagnosis to predict the presence of any genetic defect in the embryo. Such parents generally conceive through artificial reproductive technologies. The testing of embryos in the preimplantation stage or the oocytes are beneficial for the couples whose offspring are at high risk of developing severe Mendelian disorders, chromosomal abnormalities, and any other genetic defect.
