Water is the most essential part of substance for any kind of life in the world. It is not evenly distributed in all over the world, and its availability at the same location is not uniform over the year. The water prone zones when face drought get water from the water resources. For various kind of reason following the need for water the dams are made on rivers.
We are now to discuss some of the cost and benefits of these damming on rivers.
Costs | Benefits |
1. During the construction the local people has to face displacement. | 1. Water storage: It stores water so that it can be used in need for various purposes including industrial, municipal and agriculture. |
2. During their work sometimes they emit greenhouse gases. | 2. Flood control: Dams help prevent the loss of life and property caused by the floods in that area. The flood control dams impound the flood water and release that to the river below the dam or store the water for uses. |
3. The procedure of power generation and all often disrupts the local ecosystem. | 3. Power plant: To produce the hydropower which is renewable electricity using the dam water. Hydropower is considered to be clean because it does not contribute to global warming, acid rain or air pollution. |
