Describe how to maintain and use proper body mechanics ?

Body mechanics can be defined as the function performed by bones, muscles and nervous system together to regulate the proper posture, balance and alignment while moving, transferring or positioning the patient. Body mechanics help a person to do daily activities without using much energy and decrease the risk of injuries.
Three practices are required to regulate good body mechanics-
- To create a sturdy foundation while standing and by keeping your feet apart.
- Try to bend at your knees rather than using your waist.
- Always try to keep your hips, feet, back and neck in an aligned position and prevent bend and twist at the waist.
Using practices like at the time of sitting keep buttocks to the back of the seat and always maintain a gap between the knee’s back and seat. While sitting make an angle of 90 degrees and keep your feet flat on the floor.
Other ways by which body mechanics can be improved are reducing any injury or fatigue. Use your leg muscles and arm muscles while lifting an object rather than using your back muscles. And try to hold the heavy objects to your waist.
