Question

Describe an example of a mixed design. Identify your variables and their levels.

Expert Solution
Step 1

The mixed model design has two types of variable namely,

  1. A between subject’s variable
  2. A within subject’s variable.

Example of this kind of design as discussed below;

An experiment is conducted to identify the extent to which small children are attentive to violent acts on television. A sample of children equally divided in the number of boys and girls. Each views four scenes differing over the level of violence. The dependent variable is a measure of attention during the view presentation. Children might be more attentive over a scene that has a high level of violence. Moreover, this depends on gender. Therefore there exist a strong relationship between attention and level of violence for boys and girls. This can be modeled using a mixed design model.
