Alcohol abuse syndrome is a pattern of alcohol use that involves problems controlling drinking, being preoccupied with alcohol, continuing to use alcohol even when it causes problems, having to drink more to get the same effect or having withdrawal, otherwise known as alcoholism.

Step 2

Alcohol use disorder may mild, moderate, or severe, with the following sign and symptoms;

  • Being unable to limit the amount of alcohol drink,
  • Wanting to cut down on how much you drink or making unable to attempts to do so.
  • For drinking spending lot of time, getting alcohol, or recovering from alcohol use
  • Feeling of strong craving or urge to drink alcohol
  • Continuing to drink alcohol even though know it's causing physical, social, or interpersonal problems.

Symptoms of alcohol withdrawal ( if stop suddenly cause withdrawal symptoms;

Symptoms spike around 24 to 72 hours after the last drink

  • Hyperexcited, anxious, restless, and shaky
  • Feeling wiped out and tired
  • Mood swings
  • Having nightmares
  • Nausea, headache
  • Appetite loss

Treatment for alcohol withdrawal symptoms;

  • Mild to moderate - Able to withdraw at home, Sedatives- Ativan, Valium, or Clonazepam
  • Moderate to severe - Hospitalized, intravenous fluid administration to prevent dehydration
  • Long-term treatment- Stop drinking completely, counseling sessions.
