Contact pressure is defined as the ration of normal force acting on the true contact area (front area and rear areas are included).
Elastic settlement is defined as the distortion in shape of foundation due to compression in vertical direction and expansion in lateral direction.
In flexible footing, the contact pressure is uniform and settlement will depend on the type of soil. For cohesive soils, the settlement on the foundation will be the maximum on the center and least at the edges.
