Describe about the Strength Properties for Analysis—Clay and Mixed Soils.

A material 's strength is described as being the greatest stress it can withstand. When the stress exceeds the force, fault occurs. Analysis of strength can be done on tensile. Compressive stresses and strains to shear. Since soil has very little to zero tensile strength geotech engineers seldom carry out study of tensile strength.
The configuration of most geotech problems is such that the soil sample is in compression however compression does not collapse. While the addition of large compressive stresses will lead to soil failure, the soil is collapsing in shear rather than compression. Almost all geotech strength analyzes are therefore conducted for shear stresses.
In either aspect the shear strength of a soil is really the average shear stress which can be applied to that same soil in that path. Consistent shear displacement among soil particles may also describe it as the resistance to degradation. The coulomb equation for determining strength of soil is shown below:
